The San Francisco Transit Riders Union is a rider-based, grassroots organization working to improve public transit in San Francisco. We love public transit and are frustrated with the delays, slow travel times, and lack of funding. Our City is often on the cutting edge, but our transit system has fallen behind that of other major cities. San Franciscans have consistently supported public transit, and they deserve a reliable, robust, and 21st-century transit system. SFTRU is working to deliver that change.

Campaigns

SFTRU is fighting for:

  • All-door boarding on Muni buses, as currently exists on Muni light-rail lines
  • Bus rapid transit lines on Van Ness and Geary Avenues
  • The implementation of a network of Rapid lines throughout the City, as planned in the Transit Effectiveness Project

Support our work for an excellent, affordable, and growing public transit system.

We fight for Muni because it is essential to the character and soul of our city. Unlike places where transit is a choice of last resort for people who don’t have cars, Muni is used by and benefits everyone in this diverse city. It keeps our streets safer by limiting car traffic. It enables nearly a third of households to live without a car and reduces our emissions of greenhouse gases.

When Muni is threatened, we are all threatened. The SF Transit Riders Union is fighting to preserve public transit in San Francisco as a clean, safe, efficient, fast, and dignified transportation option.
